Directly from MY OPPONENT's website (on
7/5/2008)•
"Independent thinker - voting for the constituents in the
5th district, not the status quo" - Being an independent thinker is not
always a good thing. MY OPPONENT has not been a team player, often voting
opposite all other Commissioners for the good of the County. For example,
MY OPPONENT was the lone vote against the 2009 County Budget. This budget
had some very good points, such as an increase in funds for Open Space
Preservation, putting in a new Paramedic Station closer to residents, Dog
Control funding, and the elimination of positions if they have been vacant for
two years. His response to the vote did not accompany a reason why he was
voting in that manner.
•
Fiscal conservative - Being fiscally conservative
does not mean being fiscally responsible. MY OPPONENT has often been the
lone vote against any issue that improved services provided by the County,
including the recent budget which increased funding for the Farmland
Preservation Fund from $300,000 to $1,000,000.
•
Voted for the APFO ordinance,
putting schools roads, emergency personnel before development - The
APFO (Adequate Public Facilities Ordinances) put constraints on any new
application for a development. They addressed schools, paramedic services,
water & sewer, and roads. Developers with applications that were already
in process filed appeals to be exempt from these ordinances, meaning they would
NOT have to address how they affect roads and school. MY OPPONENT had the
worst voting record of any Commissioner, voting to allow this exemption on 25 of
the 56 appeals. Thankfully, only 20 of these were granted the exemption.
•
WG worked with his
constituents to stop construction of the gymnasium and preserve Brecknock
Park - Understandably, the residents of Chapelcroft were very vocal
about the gymnasium being built in their back yards. MY OPPONENT was able
to gather them and the gymnasium will not be built there. The gymnasium
will now be built on Dykes Branch Road, north of Dover, and will not be a
community resource that the residents of Briar Park, Rodney Village, or others
that do not have access to vehicles will be able to use. Was Brecknock the
best place? We will never know.
•
Re-elect WG to continue to be
your voice fighting for the citizens of the 5th District of Kent County -
While MY OPPONENT has been saying he is the fighting voice, George
"Jody" Sweeney has been acting. Jody has been instrumental in getting the roads
in Wynn Wood dedicated by DelDOT, opening a blocked drainage pipe on Lockmeath,
assisting in bringing a short term resolution to the intersection at Rt 10 and
Moose Lodge/Dundee Rd. Jody was the only elected official or candidate to
stand up in opposition to the Camden Comprehensive Plan which included proposed
annexations of Royal Grant, Sandy Hill, Treybern, Eagles Nest, and Stonegate.
MY OPPONENT stood in favor of this plan.
• Lifetime Delawarean -
Most of Mr. Edmanson's life has been spent in Sussex County. George
"Jody" Sweeney, on the other hand, has been in Kent County for all of his
47 years, living all but five in the 5th District, attending schhol in the
Caesar Rodney school district, graduating in 1978.
• Enlisted Navy veteran - I
have complete respect for any person who is willing to enter the military
in service of our country. My son-in-law is in his 10th year in the
United States Air Force, living the last four years in Germany.
• Naval Unit Commendation recipient

• Navy Expeditionary Medal recipient
- See the above answer for "Enlisted Navy veteran".
• Delaware State University – Graduated Class of 1994
• Husband, father and veteran who is listening to the citizens of Kent
County - Many citizens do not even know who the Levy Court
Commissioner is in the 5th District. Promises made during Mr.
Edmanson's run for the At-Large Commissioner office and the Special
Election for the 5th District have not been followed through.
Representative Blakey has had one meeting for residents in the 34th, which
Mr. Edmanson also attended, as did I.
